Yes BUT they power off after not receiving signal for a while. So if you want to leave them permanently in place, you have to reach around and press the power button on each one, each time :-(

I accidentally discovered a way to "disable" the soundbar from going into standby mode. I changed my soundbar to take its input from an optical cable (instead of HDMI) and noticed that it no longer was timing out. My theory is that maybe the optical cable is periodically (constantly?) talking to the soundbar so that it doesn't know when to go to sleep. I'm posting this answer to my own question with hopes it will help out somebody else out there. You're welcome. :-)

No. They do not need calibration, unless you are changing them around then yes you will need to.

Correct, The JBL Bar 5.1 Supports HDR/HDR10/Dolby Vision pass-through as the HDMi Ports in the bar are HDCP 2.2 which should be compatible with it. Unfortunately, Dolby Atmos and DTS-x are not supported .

The Bar 5.1 does not have any USB audio input but you can connect it to your computer by using an Aux cable or using HDMI cable as most computers have these connections.

always having the rear satellites fixed in foot rests ... does the bar have some kind of side cover to cover the part where the satellites are loaded in the bar? It is a bit lacking in aesthetics, not having the satellites.

We're here to help with your JBL Bar 5.1. If the unit is turning off please try checking the cable to see if it is connected properly on both ends. If the audio is disconnecting, this could happen when the volume level is too low, and your soundbar might not register the audio. Your soundbar can go into standby mode without an active signal input from your TV or set-top box to conserve power. We recommend setting your input volume to maximum levels and try to adjust the volume with the soundbar. We also recommend trying to download the most updated firmware for your unit by heading to our "Documents & Downloads section. If you need more help, please reach out to our customer support.

Yes it has. The JBL Bar 5.1 has HDCP 2.2 that utilizes 4K and can passthrough 4K video.

The audio quality would improve since placing the surround speakers in the right place would give you a real surround sound experience compared to having the speakers connected with the soundbar at the front.

The JBL Bar series does not offer internet connection, therefore, Wi-Fi audio streaming will not work (Google Cast, Spotify Connect). For wireless audio streaming, the JBL Bar 5.1 offers Bluetooth connection.

Hi there, it's good to know that the life expectancy of li-ion batteries is 500 to 1000 recharging cycles. You can expect full capacity until you have recharged about 500 times. From 500 to 1000 recharging cycles, capacity will decrease gradually, until almost no capacity is left. Life expectancy is optimal when the battery is being used between 10 and 50 degrees Celsius. If the batteries stopped charging, you may contact us so we can get it replaced for you.

If you're referring to our apps for our JBL Bar 5.1, then to be clear, we don't have an app for the soundbar. You can, however, download the Google Home app for setup the voice assistant for your soundbar.

It is upgradable but there are no firmware updates for the Bar 5.1 yet. Instructions on how to do a firmware update will be included if there is one available.

There's no need for a receiver for it to work. It is a stand-alone system that has its own amplifier to power each speaker.
